Detailed Re-envisioning Concept Research

Timber Shutter
CH2-Melbourne City Council

Some parts of the re-envisioned building's external are covered with wood shield which are composed with large number of slender recycled wood panels arranged vertically. This idea is inspired by the timber shutter. These wood shield functions function to filter the fierce sunlight in order to make the internal light soft. On the other hand, the long slender wood panels should make the building looks slimmer horizontally.

The concept of the Vitra Design Museum Re-envisioning

The concept of re-envisioning Frank Gehry's Vitra Design Museum is to create s waterfront building by a city's harbor. This project aimed to maintain the main features of the Vitra Design Museum, which are the simplicity and dramatic of the form, as well as the the composing of variable geometries. The type of building being created is a entertainment centre, which including a small casino, a theatre, several restaurants and bars and also some retail stores. The purpose is to create a space for tourists and local citizens to get relaxed and appreciate the harbor scenery. Unlike the Vitra design museum as its its isolate and blankness look, several materials are going to chosen for this project in order to make a contrast of different materials. Especially the use of massive galls walls, which should make the building looks more vivid and approachable. The use of glass wall may also enable people indoor enjoying the harbor view without restraints.

Building Case Study From Frank Gehry's Architecture

Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles
http://goodpurefun.blogspot.com/2009/11/f-to-g-and-i-dont-mean-mta.htm

The Walt Disney Concert Hall by Frank Gehry in Los Angeles had been chosen for the case study. The building was been purposed to provide a best acoustical environment for the orchestra and to create a possible closest connection between the audience and the musicians and also to create a visionary building reflecting the Los Angeles' s culture, character and climate. With the existing building surrounded the site - the Music Centre Facilities, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the downtown redevelopment area of Bunker Hill, the Walt Disney Concert Hall was also designed to create a powerful relationship between them.
Frank Gehry won in the competition. His interpretation of the acoustical parameters had led to a concert hall designed as a series of smaller rooms focused toward the orchestra with seats surrounding the stage. For the exterior, the design was expressed as a layered sculptural of limestone rotated on the site to bend the symmetrical axis of the Music Centre toward the Museum of Contemporary Art. From my point of view, Several of the buildings designed by Frank Gehry had referred to sculptural-like forms, with concrete and stone materials cubes which to be rotated, shrunk and transformed, and then gathered together. A large, glass-covered garden foyer was designed to "the living room of the city", which functioned not only the entre bur as a great civic space enlivened by daily performance and festivities.
